Circuit City Layoffs

March 30th, 2007 | Category: shopping, working

Apparently Circuit City is laying off some of its “higher paid” work force to hire new employees at lower wages. The positions of the people being laid off *are not being eliminated* - just the higher level paychecks are. The people who are being laid off may re-apply for their current job 10 weeks after their severance. If they are re-hired, it will be at the new, lower wage. Of course, thats if their job hasn’t already been filled.

Now, I dont know about you - but I don’t see this as being a fair and just business practice - even in the face of competition. You can all make your own choices, but after reading this story, I’m not shopping at Circuit City again.

Here’s a link to the story about 4 workers in Fort Collins who were laid off.

Oh my god… shoes!

March 14th, 2007 | Category: Life, shopping

Whenever something hurts my feelings, or I’m feeling exceptionally sad, I shop. I’ve written about shopping before. But after the super-great event of this weekend, I needed some retail therapy.

Since I’m doing the biggest loser contest at work, I refuse to let myself buy clothes. With some hard work and luck they won’t be fitting in another few weeks anyway. So, I bought shoes.

I bought 3 pairs of shoes.

And a purse.

And sunglasses.

Remind me next time that I want retail therapy to head to the dollar store instead.

Commerce

February 20th, 2007 | Category: shopping

Today was my day off. For some reason, my company has decided that they wanted to close our doors in honor of our Presidents. So, I decided to partake of the wonderful world of commerce.

I shopped.

My mom and I trekked down to the Flat Irons Crossings Mall, and shopped and shopped and shopped. And all I bought was… jelly beans. That’s right. Probably a hundred stores, thousands of things to buy, and I bought jelly beans. Granted, they were “Jelly Belly” jelly beans, but they were still not really worth the drive.

And tomorrow, I get to go back to work. I’ll be helping to give a new employee orientation, which should be interesting. Of course, looking at the schedule for this week, it should be a pretty interesting week.
